Meet the Nerve Team: Apex Legends

Nerve Gaming is an up and coming Esports organization led by Dr. Mitchell Tepper at United Spinal Atlanta in Georgia, with the goal of increasing adaptive inclusivity in gaming, among other things. In this article, we’ll take a deep dive into the Apex Legends team.

Talent

The Nerve Gaming Apex team currently consists of three members: MiketheQuad, Quadcabaple, and Sir Phive. MiketheQuad is a C6 quadriplegic, who uses an Xbox Elite 2 Controller, in conjunction with an Xbox Adaptive Controller, and a Logitech Adaptive Kit, which allows for adding additional buttons for use with elbows, or from easier-to-reach places. Quadcapable is a C3 quadriplegic, who uses a sip-and-puff device called the Quadstick. It features a joystick, a button, and four air holes which have a different input for air blown in or sucked out, all operable with just the mouth. Sir Phive is a C5 quadriplegic, who uses An Xbox Elite Controller, with trigger pulls and magnetic joystick toppers, which work in conjunction with a magnetic sleeve and brace, which keeps his thumbs straight.

History and Upcoming

The Nerve Gaming Apex team is in its first year of competition, and has participated in two JAHVA tournaments, and MiketheQuad and Quadcapable participated in the National Veterans Wheelchair Games for 2022.

In more recent times, we’ll see Nerve Gaming Apex in two different tournaments. In October, they’ll be the target of a fundraiser hosted by Chicken Coop Esports, who are hosting an Apex tournament over the course of the month. In addition to that, Nerve Gaming Apex will be hosting their own tournament with Atlanta Premiere, in which all players will use adaptive setups, regardless of their needs.

All of this is part of the Nerve Campaign for Inclusive Esports – a campaign to raise awareness for the needs of adaptive gamers by encouraging inclusivity, standardizing adaptive gaming, and showcasing the unique skill sets found in all sorts of gamers and setups.

Clinics

Nerve Gaming has also hosted clinics, which multiple team members, including Sir Phive, participated in and assisted. These clinics are hosted out of LAN Centers in and around Atlanta, and help differently-abled people to discover or rediscover gaming. These clinics assist adaptive gamers by learning about their needs and developing a setup that gives them full accessibility.

Summary

Nerve Gaming Apex has a lot of plans for the rest of the year, but they’re not the only ones. The Nerve Gaming Rocket League team also has a tournament coming up in November, which you can read more about here.
