Halo Infinite Multiplayer

Now that E3 has come and gone we are left with a slew of new Halo Infinite multiplayer news. As a long time Halo, I for one could not be more excited for what competitive and casual multiplayer Halo Infinite is going to bring.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of what was revealed this weekend, rather it is a snapshot of some of the most exciting aspects.

Online Training

Halo Infinite is being sold as the ultimate Halo experience for hardcore fans as well as newcomers to the series. To assist new players with the online experience 343 is adding a more in depth online tutorial system. This includes a space to test out all the guns, play against AI opponents, and learn the online lingo that comes with Halo.

Customization

We learned from the multiplayer gameplay video on Monday that Halo Infinite would allow for the highest level of customization to date. Every piece of armor can be changed, as well as the addition of prosthetics. There will be skins for guns, vehicles, and more.

343 reassured players that there will be no loot boxes in the game, no random chances for that gun skin or new helmet you are trying to get. In lieu of this, they will be taking a page out of Fortnite and Warzone by having a battle pass system. However, these battle passes never expire so you aren’t forced to play or miss out. Need to take a break for six months? No problem, you can purchase all previously released battle passes with no time constraints.

Multiplayer Mechanics

During the presentation the developers outlined how Halo Infinite would change the competitive landscape. The largest change in my opinion is the addition of a grappling hook. Not only does this allow for vertical movement in the arena, it also allows the player to grapple weapons to themselves or even grapple enemies.

Halo wouldn’t be Halo without vehicles scattered around the map. The standard cast of vehicles from previous games have all been shown to be in Infinite as well as a new vehicle, the Razorback, a cousin to the Warthog that can carry weapons or additional personnel. Vehicles will be dropped into the battlefield from pelicans with the players being informed ahead of time. The developers have also introduced vehicle damage that will cause the tires or other parts to become damaged. Be careful when the warthog you’re driving catches on fire from damage. You won’t have long before it explodes.

Finally, equipment will be returning, but this time it will be activated when the player chooses instead of automatically or attached to a loadout. The downside to this is that if you don’t use the equipment you will drop it on death.

ANTI CHEAT

If you have played any multiplayer game you have probably encountered a cheater or two. This is even more prevalent when the developer does not implement an anti-cheat (such as a certain battle royale). 343 has already confirmed that Halo Infinite will be using a server side anti cheat system.
